ORAL FIP MEDS

Work Best When Given Right

The way meds are given is just as important as the meds themselves. Let's give every kitty the best chance at success!

WHY IT MATTERS

Weigh Your Cat Weekly

Their dose is based on their weight. Weighing every Monday before eating is best practice.

Fast 1 Hour Before & After

No food 1 hour before and 1 hour after meds for best absorption and prevent vomiting.

Same Time Every Day

Consistency helps maintain steady med levels in their system.

Give All Meds Together

Give all meds together if more than one pill or capsule is needed.

Time-Released For A Reason

One of the reasons manufacturers do not recommend crushing or opening them.

TIPS FOR GIVING MEDS

Use A Pill Popper

Place pill popper towards the back of the tongue. Push the plunger. Offer a treat or water.

Churu On A Plate

Squeeze a small amount of Churu on a plate. Place the pill on top of the Churu. They should lick it right up!

Hide In A Meatball

Hide the pill in a small, meatball-sized piece of soft, smelly wet food.

Fingers Method

Use your thumb and index finger to gently open the mouth and place the pill down the side of the throat.

Follow With Water

Offer a few ML of water with a syringe (if tolerated) to help the pill go down.

Stay Calm & Confident

Kitties pick up on our energy. Stay calm, speak softly, and be patient.

Praise & Reward

Praise, pets, or a favorite treat after meds helps create positive associations.

Be Gentle & Persistent

It can take time to find what works best for your kitty. Don't give up!
